Battery Management System (BATTERY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM)
BMS means different things to different people. It is just a battery monitoring system that checks for voltage, current, battery and temperature in the internal environment during charging and discharging. The BMS monitoring circuit typically provides input to the protection device. If any parameter exceeds the set limit, the protection device will generate an alarm or disconnect the battery from the load or charger.
What protection can the Battery Management System (BMS) protect?
The basic protection features of the Battery Management System (BMS) include the following six battery protections:
1 Overvoltage protection function (OV)
When charging (including braking energy recovery), when the charging voltage of any battery exceeds the set value, the charging voltage is automatically reduced to prevent the battery from being overcharged.
2 low voltage protection function (UV)
When discharging, when the discharge voltage of any battery is lower than the set value, the discharge is stopped to prevent the battery from being over-discharged.
3 high temperature protection function (OT)
When charging or discharging or stopping the sleep state, when the temperature of any battery exceeds the set value, start the battery thermal management system to lower the battery temperature. When the maximum temperature is allowed to exceed, the circuit is automatically cut off immediately.
4 low temperature protection function (UT)
When charging, when the temperature of the battery is lower than the set value, the charging current is automatically changed, generally reducing to 1/3 of the charging current; when discharging, when the temperature of the battery is lower than the set value, the battery thermal management system is activated to raise the battery. temperature.
5 Overcurrent protection function (OC)
When charging or discharging, the current of the battery exceeds the set value, and the current is automatically limited.
6 short circuit protection function (SC)
During charging, discharging, and parking hibernation, the battery is short-circuited and the circuit is automatically cut off.
